Habits That Harm Our Dining Table

What makes a dining room perfect? It may be the food served, or the picturesque portrait on the wall, but surely a great dining table is the one that makes a dining room perfect.

But sometimes, we have habits that little by little destroy this centerpiece. Here’s our list:

1. Direct heat on the table

A hot casserole or plate can destroy the fine surface of a wooden dining table. Use a natural cork trivet or thick cotton cloth to protect the surface of the table.

2. Passing the use of placemats or tablecloth

Most of us often forget to use placemats or tablecloths. For huge meals such as a reunion dinner, the use of a tablecloth is recommended. If it’s just a casual dinner or a simple family dinner, placemats will do.

Tip: Use a fabric or cotton placemat because a plastic placemat can trap water or moisture from spills.

3. Leaving spills and letting it dry

Small water spills from a glass of water or from a flower vase are frequently ignored and left until they dry on table surfaces. It leaves water rings on our table tops which leaves an annoying stain. To avoid these, use trivets or other pads.

Tip: Gently rub with a soft cotton cloth with an oil-based product to remove those water rings.

4. Using a knife to remove dried wax spills

Use of a knife might scratch the surface and edges of the table. Instead of a knife, PVC cards are better to use in removing dried wax spills on your table tops.

5. Applying polishes

Chemicals from commercial polishes may react to the material of the table. The best way to clean the table is using a slightly damped cotton cloth to clean every time after meals and immediately buff it with a dry absorbent cloth.

Tip: Use wash cloths to dry the table immediately because it has high capillarity.
