The living room is the focal point of every home. This is where conversations are shared and memorable family bonding moments take place. As time flies, living room furniture, especially the sofa, tend to accumulate dust and dirt. Here are few simple tips and tricks to properly maintain and clean a fabric sofa.
Protect the Fabric. The best form of fabric protection is prompt attention to spills. For dust and food crumbs, use a bristle brush to remove any large particles from your couch. For liquid stains, immediately blot the area with a clean cloth to remove as much liquid as possible. Then, soak a sponge or cloth with mild soap water and blot the mixture on the stain. Press dry afterwards with a clean dry cloth. You can also try using vinegar or vodka on the cloth to blot the stains as an alternative. No worries as the smell of both the vinegar or vodka will disappear when the area is dry. Remember to blot, do not rub. Additional fabric protectors and cleaners may be applied to your upholstered furniture but always test on a small area first.
Turn the cushions. You can extend your upholstered furniture’s life by periodically turning over the loose cushions.
Vacuum. Vacuum your upholstered furniture weekly for general cleaning and to remove surface soil. This also prevents dirt from becoming embedded into the fabrics.
Avoid Sunlight. Too much sun can damage your upholstery fabric, causing it to fade and even fray.
